A gold star goes out to anyone that can tell me if the photo above is:

a) A macro of a model fort from a new Dubai project?
b) An aerial shot of a fort in the desert?
c) A very detailed sandcastle on Jumeirah Beach?

Well done if you picked B! This is another shot from my Abu Dhabi aerial escapades. I can’t exactly remember where this fort was though… looking through my shot sequence, it was definitely on one of the smaller islands around Abu Dhabi city. Will try and locate it on Google Maps later!

I wish there was something in the shot, a car or person, to give you an idea of scale because that fort is actually pretty damn big. Really goes to show how important perspective can be! Had I been lying flat out on the ground, armed with my wide angle, I could turn that little sandcastle into a citadel! Hmmm… I hear a road trip calling.

UPDATE: Well I’ll be damned!! I actually managed to find it on Google Maps! 100% sure this is it… the dirt roads match, three of the four corners are circular while one is square and you can also see the oval structures outside – click here

UPDATE 2: Few people have asked me whether it’s possible to visit the fort, it’s located on Futaisi Island and there’s a resort set up on the north end of the island. Day excursions are possible too, visit http://www.futaisi.com/ for more info.
